ACPL Invites Media to Check Out a Busy Day at the Library

The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) invites media to see a slice of life at the library. As is the case most Saturdays, April 26, 2025 looks to be a bustling day full of excitement at the Main Library including everything from poetry readings to virtual reality tours to the annual Book Bowl and even a Baby Prom. It is the perfect opportunity to see the range of audiences and experiences the community can find at its library – available at no cost. Here’s a look at the events that will make this Saturday unforgettable. 

 

ACPL 42nd Annual Poetry Contest Reception 

Main Library – Theater | 10:00am - 11:00am 

Celebrate local literary talent at the ACPL 42nd Annual Poetry Contest Reception. Winners from kindergarten through sixth grade will read their award-winning poems in this inspiring event. It's a great opportunity to see young voices shine and to support the creativity of our local youth. 

 

Music and Movement Storytime 

Main Library – Children’s StoryScape | 10 – 10:30 a.m.  

This energetic storytime is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers! Join us for a fun-filled session of stretching, singing, dancing, and jumping along to engaging stories. It’s a great way for young children to explore the joy of movement and music through books. 

 

Baby Prom 

Dupont Branch – Storytime Room | 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. 

Waynedale Branch – Meeting Room | 10:30 – 11 a.m. 

Put on your finest dancing duds and join us for a magical morning at Baby Prom! This charming event invites babies and toddlers to enjoy music and dancing in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It’s a celebration of fun, fancy attire, and making memories with little ones. 

 

Ancient Wonders & Modern Marvels! – Virtual Reality Tour of the Arab World 

Main Library – The Studio | 12:00pm - 1:00pm 

In honor of Arab American Heritage Month, the Main Library invites you to explore the Arab world through virtual reality! This immersive STEM experience takes participants on an exciting adventure, showcasing the vibrant and diverse cultures of the Arab world. This event is open to adults, as well as 7th-12th grade students. 

 

Dragons Love Tacos – Performances 

Main Library | 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. (Sensory Friendly Performance) 

Fort Wayne Youtheatre and the ACPL have once again teamed up for an exciting production based on the beloved children’s book Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. This fun-filled show is aimed at pre-K through 3rd graders, but it’s sure to delight audiences of all ages. Enjoy the comedic tale of a boy, his dog, and a group of dragons who love tacos – just be careful with the spicy salsa! The 3:00 p.m. performance will also include a sensory-friendly experience for those who may benefit from accommodations.  

 

Book Bowl - The Ultimate Trivia Competition 

Main Library – Meeting Room ABC | 2 – 4 p.m. 

Calling all book lovers! Grab your friends and compete in the ultimate book-themed trivia competition. Test your literary knowledge and see if you have what it takes to be crowned the Book Bowl champion! This event is open to adults and promises an afternoon of fun and friendly competition. 

 

Dungeons & Dragons – Teens 

Aboite Branch – Meeting Room | 3 – 5 p.m. 

Calling all teens! Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, join us for an exciting in-person gaming session. This event is perfect for 7th-12th graders looking to immerse themselves in the world of fantasy and adventure.
