Interested in Becoming a Producer?

To become a television producer, please call Access Fort Wayne at (260) 421-1250 and sign up for our new producer orientation. This orientation is conducted on the first Tuesday of the month starting at 6:30 p.m. at Access TV in the Main Library. It may also be scheduled individually on a Wednesday or Thursday morning.

  • During the orientation, new producers will be required to read our Rules and Policies and sign our producer contact form.

  • To schedule a TV studio or editing space, please call (260) 421-1250 and an Access Fort Wayne staff member will assist you. An Access producer has the right to reserve studio space three times per month.

  • To utilize one of our television studio spaces, a producer is required to organize a crew. Access TV can provide the producers with a list of trained volunteers to contact for their scheduled production. A studio space should be reserved at least twenty-four hours in advance of the production.

  • Once the production has been completed, the producer must sign the program playback contract to allow the program to be broadcast on our channels. Please speak with the Access Fort Wayne TV program director to find when and what channel the program will be aired.

How to Become a Volunteer

To become an Access Fort Wayne television volunteer, please visit the Volunteering at ACPL webpage and complete an application.

The ACPL Volunteer Services Manager, Danielle Gleason will contact you to schedule an interview and discuss interests, skills, availability and other aspects of volunteering at Allen County Public Library. You will then be scheduled for the next AFW Studio Workshop.

Contact Access Fort Wayne at (260) 421-1250 or access@acpl.info if you wish to tour the facility before the day of the workshop or if you have any further questions.

Entry Level Workshops

Camera training is given in two separate introductory workshops: Studio Camera Workshop and Camcorder Workshop.

The Studio Camera Workshop covers basic camera skills and introduces volunteers to the fundamentals of television productions.

The Camcorder Workshop builds on studio skills training by acquainting volunteers with field production which includes basic audio and technical support. Trained Access TV producers or volunteers are able to checkout a camcorder and other video production equipment with an ACPL library card.

Advanced Workshops

A volunteer can take two advanced workshops once they have accrued enough volunteering hours: Audio Operator Workshop and Assistant Director Workshop. After a volunteer has spent twenty hours volunteering as a Studio Camera Operator, they may take the Audio Operator Workshop, which teaches volunteers how to operate the audio board in master control during a television production. Once a volunteer has worked for twenty hours as an audio operator, they are eligible to take the Assistant Director Workshop. This workshop instructs volunteers to become an Access TV director and prepares them to oversee a studio production. These workshops are voluntary and are based on expressed interest.
