Oh, how I wished we still lived in Ft. i could see this display and hear the sypmphony"s presentation of Shastakovich's work.

I hope you have this book on display and on a book list: Symphony for the city of the dead : Dmitri Shostakovich and the siege of Leningrad by Anderson, M. T.  It is a graphic story with many pictures of how he wrote this musical work.  For me,  the most moving part of the story is how these few musicians come together to practice this piece in preparation of performing it for the first time. Over time, one musician after another dies due to starvation and disease, and in the end they make do with however many musicians are left in the orchestra and open on opening night.  So sad.

But what a piece of music!!!!
